The attitude to divine direction is the attitude of humility and meekness. Let’s consider 3 scriptural personalities in this regard:
- Moses
Numbers 12:1-3.
1-And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
2-And they said, Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? And the Lord heard it.
3-(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
Moses married an Ethiopian woman and he was criticized but God regarded him as a meek man and judged those that criticized him. His meekness gave him unusual insight into the scripture, he wrote the first five books in the bible. Every meek person have free access to divine direction. If you want to gain access to the things of God or to divine direction, you must be humble, you must be ready to comply with divine instruction whether it is convenient or not.
- Jesus
Philippians 2:5-8.
5-Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6-Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7-But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8-And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and even the death of the cross.
Jesus came down from heaven in form of man, he humbled himself, he made himself to be of low reputation.
Luke 22:42-43.
42-Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43-And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
Jesus was fully committed to doing the will of God, this is humility. Humility is different from quietness, you can be quite and be proud, it may not show because quietness has covered the pride in you. But humility is your readiness to comply to the commandment of God whether it is convenient or not. When you care about your reputation, you will disobey God. Your reputation is of no use when you want to follow the will of God. So, Jesus enjoyed revelation because he was humbled.
- Paul
Paul as a religious Saul persecuted the church, he thought he was doing God a favour. With all his qualifications he didn’t write any book until he was humbled when he met with Jesus on his way to Damascus and through that he gained access to the things of God to the extent that wrote many books in the New testament.
Philippians 3:10.
10-That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.
Paul was raised to occupy the position of a chief priest but he counted it ordinary when he became a christian.
So, you need right attitude to be instructed by God and this attitude is determined by the quality and the quantity of the information or knowledge that you have concerning that issue.
