WHY DO WE FAST AND PRAY. By Pst Femi Leke

What is prayer?

Prayer means communication with God, or giving earthly licence to heavenly intervention God cannot intervene in any situation here on earth; unless He has been called to invade the situation. Prayer altar is not the altar for begging for things; but an altar to communicate with the father. When you pray irresponsible prayers; you won’t get any answer. The bible says; this is the confidence that we have: that when we pray according to his will; we will have what we ask for . What’s the will of God? His word.

  • We pray; because of the gimmicks of ignorance and unbelief that the devil uses from blocking us; from enjoying the plans of God.

(John 10:10);

The devil comes only  to kill, steal and destroy.

2peter 1:1-4(KJV):

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our saviour Jesus Christ:  2) Grace and peace unto you through the knowledge of God,  and of Jesus our lord,3) According as his divine power hath given us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by this ye might be partaker of the divine nature, having escape the corruption. That is in this world through lust.

Peter was writing the letter to those that have obtained; we have obtained grace and peace is multiplied through the knowledge of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus did not only come to save us from sin and it’s consequences; but to show us the father. Whoever sees

Jesus; as seen the father;  he came also to show us; (I.e. the picture of who we are in Christ)

Without not knowing God; you can’t know yourself. God has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Christ is in us and we are a partaker of his divine nature. To build up one’s faith:

  • The fasting and praying is more of a faith building channel. God has given us all things; but without faith it’s impossible to possess it.

Matthew17:14-17(KJV):

And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man,  kneeling down to him,  and saying to him,  15) Lord have mercy on my son:  for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: and for often times he falleth into the fire, and oft the water.16) And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.17) Then Jesus answered and said, o faithless and perverse generation,  how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

The boy was possessed with the spirit of lunatic and he was brought to the disciples; but the disciples failed in delivering their result, because of their unbelief.

To cure unbelief. Nothing can stop you when you believe.

  • It’s a time set aside; to discover the provision of God and its conditions.
  • The work of praying and fasting; is to fight the good fight of faith: to put your faith back in line.

Matthew 10:1v5:

And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and diseases.5) These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

Luke 9: 1-2(KJV):

Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.2)  And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick

He gave them power to cast out demon and the book of Luke  was also talking about the same thing; but different perspective saying; he gave them power and authority to heal all diseases and to preach the kingdom. The difference between disciples that could cast out demon in chapter ten; and those that could not cast out the demon from a small boy is lack of faith? Building faith for divine laughter, requires responsibility; you don’t get faith by prayer; faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. For Instance; John the Baptist: when challenges came is faith disappeared.

Matthew 11:1(KJV):

And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. 2) Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,  3) And said unto him,Art thou he that should come,  or do we look for another? 4) Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

But the good thing is the bible says we won’t be tempted more than we can bear. Faith also comes by seeing; through understanding the word.  Faith is not once and for all; it as to be continuous.

  • Prayer helps you to see: until you see; you can’t believe.

Job 33:23(KJV):

If there be a messenger with him,  an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his righteousness: Job problem was that he was blind; he forgot what build his faith.

  • It is a time to intermediate with God. The word of God says a man having separated himself;  it intermedio with all wisdom.
  • It’s for our light to break forth.

(Isaiah 58:8-9: KJV):

 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee;  the glory of the Lord shall be thy reward.

Understanding the scripture is equal to light. Faith is the complete redemptive work.
